Illario is an expressive rosé produced from Tuscany’s signature varietal, Sangiovese, named in honor of the proprietor’s father whose middle name was Illario. A well-structured wine through the engaging finish layered with aromas of sweet red cherries and tart raspberries and notes of violets and herbs. It is fresh with bright acidity making it an ideal food wine. Following fermentation in stainless steel, this wine was aged for 3 months on the fine lees prior to bottling adding depth. Made from 100% certified organic Sangiovese grapes.
Maremma Toscana is an appellation title covering a wide array of wine styles from the province of Grosseto in Tuscany. It was officially promoted to DOC status in September 2011, after 16 years as an IGT title. There were 715 hectares (1,766 acres) of vineyards in 2018. Production volume in the same year was the equivalent to just under 529,000 cases. 23 communes and 168 frazioni (hamlets) may add their name to a wine label.
Fattoria di Magliano is wine estate in the Maremma region of Tuscany. The company was founded in 1996 when footwear businessman Agostino Lenci bought an estate in the heart of the region. The first wines were produced in 2003.
The portfolio includes two flagship Rosso di Toscana IGT reds – Perenzo is made from Syrah, while the single-vineyard Poggio Bestiale wine is a Bordeaux blend. Both see 14 to 18 months in new French oak barriques.
The rest of the Magliano lineup, however, does not spend any time in wood. This includes Sinarra and Illario, a red and rosé wine made from Sangiovese under the Maremma Toscana DOC. Heba is a Morellino di Scansano DOCG wine, and the Pagliatura Vermentino della Maremma Toscana is Magliano’s sole white wine.
