2020 Radio Coteau County Line Pinot Noir
2020 Radio Coteau County Line Pinot Noir, Sonoma County, California
Winemaker Notes; The 2020 County Line Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir boasts a clear ruby red color as much as it does red fruit. Bing cherry, fresh strawberry, and tart raspberry lead the way with plum following. A mild potpourri infuses the nose and palate as youthful aromas of cinnamon and cola nut add further nuance. Once sipped a fennel tinge is suggested along with other savory spices and dry forest floor character. The entry of the wine on the palate is round and inviting but is kept sharp and directed with its lean finish.
On a hot summer evening, try this Pinot Noir chilled with sautéed Elk tenderloin, garlic, and rosemary.
Thin-skinned, finicky and temperamental, Pinot Noir is also one of the most rewarding grapes to grow and remains a labor of love for some of the greatest vignerons in Burgundy. Fairly adaptable but highly reflective of the environment in which it is grown, Pinot Noir prefers a cool climate and requires low yields to achieve high quality. Outside of France, outstanding examples come from in Oregon, California and throughout specific locations in wine-producing world. Somm Secret—André Tchelistcheff, California’s most influential post-Prohibition winemaker decidedly stayed away from the grape, claiming “God made Cabernet. The Devil made Pinot Noir.”
