2020 Tenuta di Trinoro Le Cupole IGT Toscana(NY Item)
2020 Tenuta di Trinoro Le Cupole IGT Toscana This is a terrific value proposition. The 2020 Le Cupole is a rich, flavorful wine. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, espresso, incense and chocolate are front and center. There’s not much subtlety here, but then again I am not sure that is the goal, either. This flamboyant red will be a joy to drink right out of the gate. Drinking window: 2022-2030” Galloni, Vinous
Le Cupole was first produced in 1995. The blend of the four grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, changes every year with the respect to the vintage. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in one to three year-old barriques and cement, Le Cupole is velvety and approachable. This wine hits the palate with exuberance, full of fleshy, bright fruit, extracted tannins, and rich color.
If you love the best, drink the best, and appreciate the best, the wines from Tenuta di Trinoro belong in your hands. With the years we have been in the wine business, there are few Italian producers that match the wits and moxy as Tenuta di Trinoro. These are unicorn wines, bottlings that the second they come to market they are snatched up by hardcore wine enthusiasts. Big ticket Super Tuscans like Sassicaia and Ornellaia, as legendary as they are, pale in comparison to Trinoro. We are talking benchmark, top of the pyramid, once in a lifetime wines that remind us why we are in this business. I had to find tooth and nail for today’s offer and once this is emailed out will be snatched up. Run, don’t walk. My palate is tingling while writing this.
Tenuta di Trinoro 2020 “Le Cupole” Toscana is a showstopper, is one of the best values found in Tuscany, and hits “that proverbial sweet spot between excellence and value.” Located in a remote corner of southeastern Tuscany, Tenuta di Trinoro specializes in rich, age-worthy red wines made of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. The 200-hectare estate sits in viticultural isolation in the Orcia Valley near Sarteano, where Tuscany meets Umbria and Lazio (just to the southeast of the hill of Montalcino). The owner and winemaker is the legendary and charismatic Andrea Franchetti, one of the leading modernists of Italian winemaking. He acquired the property in the 1980s and in the beginning of the 1990s started planting his first vines, when the world was just discovering Bordeaux styled Super Tuscans. The most important lesson he gleaned from a stint in Bordeaux was the crucial role played by terroir. He saw, in the rough woodland that would become Trinoro, clay-limestone and gravel soils reminiscent of those in Saint-Émilion. Only select parcels were suitable for vine-growing, amid a sea of blue clay, and those he cleared by hand and planted in the style of the Bordelaise: high-density, meter-by-meter plantings, with cuttings brought over from some of the region’s great estates. Extreme ripeness, and concentration of flavor characterize his winemaking style. The wines are highly perfumed and opulent, at once approachable and meant to be left to develop in
