2021 Chimney Rock Elevage
2021 Chimney Rock Elevage This wine is super expressive with aromas of blackberry, cocoa powder with hints of mint, clove and espresso. Ripe and intense with flavors blackberry, mocha and a hint of vanilla. In terms of mouthfeel, it is medium-bodied with super silky tannins, a round and viscous mid-palate ends with a nice long finish with some bright acidity in the end. Winemaker
The 2021 Red Blend Elevage is plusher and more forward, yet it shares a similar level of purity and finesse. Black cherries, cassis, spring flowers, chocolate, and a kiss of background minerality all define the aromatics, and this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, ripe, velvety tannins, and a great finish. 95pts Jeb Dunnuck
Napa was a sleepy little town that no one had heard of. That all changed with the famous 1976 Paris Tasting when a Cabernet from Stags Leap changed the world of wine forever. Today we bring you one of the trailblazers of Stags Leap. Situated on the famed Silverado Trail in Napa Valley’s renowned Stags Leap District, Chimney Rock is recognized as one of the world’s premier fine wine producers. Established in 1980 by Hack and Stella Wilson, they brought their love of wine and South African winery architecture to the Napa Valley. Hack owned a Pepsi bottling plant in South Africa and when he sold it, he purchased Chimney Rock. The goal was to create wines that emulate the quintessence of Stags Leap District and epitomize dualities of power and grace and finesse and muscle. One of my all-time favorites, the 2021 Chimney Rock Elevage epitomizes Stags Leap. Chimney Rock’s Bordeaux Proprietary Blend displays what makes Stags leap so great.
Winemaker is Elizabeth Vianna, a native of Brazil and a biology major at Vassar College, Christian Moueix gave her the wine bug, went on to UC Davis to learn how to make wine. She became an Assistant Winemaker working directly with many of the region’s most legendary winemakers including mentors Celia Welch, Erin Green and Heidi Barrett and went on to Chimney Rock in 2005. The wine aren’t all power and bluster but rather show another level of character and complexity only found in stags leap. Cabs that have more balance and poise that age probably better than other district in Napa. Please Enjoy!
