2021 Domaine Berthet Rayne Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc
2021 Domaine Berthet Rayne Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Rare and very elegant wine, it is pale yellow with some green nuances. It expresses a subtle floral, well-balanced and fresh bouquet. This wine has scents of ripe grapes, fennel, honey, anise, green olive, gun flint, and plenty more. Very complex in flavors, and quite rich on the palate.
In our family for four generations, the family domain cultivates 29 hectares, primarily Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The Domain is situated on the diluvium alpin soil, more specifically on the left side of the Rhone between Orange and Avignon in the renowned “terroirs” of Coudoulet and Chapouin. Domaine Berthet-Rayne wines draw their strength and richness from clayey-chalky soils.
The vineyard is run along traditional lines : the soil is cultivated and ploughed in an environmentally friendly farming method ; the vines are treated in a natural way with specially adapted tools. We achieve 35 hectolitres per hectare and our grapes are picked and all sorted by hand. The perfect maturity of the red and white grapes is guaranteed, thus ensuring a perfect balance of the wine being produced. The vinification process benefits from the use of a modern equipment : a light pressing and destalking for certain vintages ; with fermentation carried out at automatically regulated temperatures – all give our wines a more delicate and fruity flavour and allow them to age well.
In the twenties, Raoul RAYMOND took over the reins of the family farm.He rooted up parcels of cherries to plant vines. To expand the Domaine des CIGALONS, his son Emile began to plant vines. He turned towards vine-growing.In 1978, with his help, his son-in-law Christian set up the Domaine BERTHET-RAYNE. Christian took vines from a vineyard rental system in the Barnouine soil. The Domaine BERTHET-RAYNE creates a range of wines to be sold in France. Between 1995 and 2000, the estate began to export wines in Europe, then in the United States of America. In 2003, his granddaughter Laure arrived to work with her parents followed by her husband Martial Capeau in 2005.
