2021 Domaine Grand Roche ‘Beauroy’ Premier Cru Chablis 750ML
2021 Domaine Grand Roche ‘Beauroy’ Premier Cru Chablis 750ML Dusty lemon zest, ginger, lavender and acacia flower on the nose, complemented by a sexy leesy quality. Round, smooth, spicy and rich but still a bit youthfully unforthcoming; less expressive today than the Cote de Lechet but has more weight and palate presence. Shows an intriguing saline umami character. The rich, long, salty finish boasts sneaky grip and a racy citric character. This wine exploded with 24 hours in the recorked bottle.
Chablis makes some of the greatest white wine on the planet. The steep, rocky slopes that extend to the right and left bank of the river Serein are the birthplace to a history which spans over one hundred and fifty million years. This is where the unique Kimmeridgian terroir, alternating marl and marly limestone, embues Chablis with minerality and great freshness. These are vinous characteristics, envied and often imitated around the world, but never matched. Today I have my favorite boutique producer that I have been offering with great success over the last twenty years. We have the 2021 Domaine Grand Roche Premier Cru ‘Beauroy’ to offer and I tasted last week and it is smoking. Beauroy sits on an incredibly privileged southeastern ridge that offers ideal sun exposure, which creates the perfect balance of ripe and lean fruit. In the hands of these master producers, a gorgeously bright and concentrated wine is the result, and we can’t get enough! It shares similar characteristics to its Grand Cru neighbors, including the famous Kimmeridgian soil which contributes to the wine’s hallmark concentration and power, citrus flavors and fresh minerality. Chablis is white wine lovers white wine. Imagine an orchard after a cool rain, wet stones underfoot, with just-picked lemons, green apples and pears, toasted nuts, and a hint of wild white pepper It’s got ample body and texture, along with the precise, crystalline acidity that makes Chablis perpetually refreshing. Its fresh-squeezed citrus flavors will make you imagine there’s lemon in any dish, yet it boasts the symphony of minerality and complexity that can only be found in wine. Please enjoy!
