2021 Double Diamond Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
2021 Double Diamond Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon stands to outshine the award-winning 2019 vintage with even deeper concentration and complexity. On the nose, the wine leaps from the glass with ripe blackberry, cassis, black cherry, and red plum, with a lovely herbaceous undertone. The palate expresses juicy red and black fruits with hints of black tea, damp earth, vanilla bean, lavender, and just a touch of flint. With fine-grained tannins and mouthwatering acidity that lingers through the long finish, this wine is ready to drink upon release but will cellar well for years to come. Winery
“In the glass, the wine displays a nearly opaque ruby-purple hue. Upon closer inspection, aromas emerge in waves suggesting framboise, nutmeg, toasted cedar bark, plum reduction, and pennyroyal mint. The sleek palate is marked by mouth-watering notes such as blackberry compote, dark chocolate shavings, cassis, oolong tea, flint, and lavender. The dynamic flavors interact on the mid-palate with a vivid harmony, carrying through to the long floral finish, which lasts for up to a minute. With a pleasing acidity and fine tannic framework, this wine is very enjoyable today and should develop gracefully in the cellar for years to come.”
This wine is very hard to get, 2019 was Wine Spectator’s #1 wine of their Top 100 in 2022. This is the Cabernet that everyone wants! James Molesworth, of Wine Spectator, writes that Double Diamond “provides an emphatic answer to the Napa Cabernet value question, punching above its weight while costing well below top-flight Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. And it comes from Schrader Cellars, whose winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown, is acknowledged as one of the valley’s best.” At Schrader Cellars, our single-minded focus on quality and provenance has always been at the heart of our winemaking efforts and extends to Double Diamond, as well. Sourced from prime vineyards in the Oakville AVA, including blocks of famed To Kalon, Double Diamond is crafted by Thomas Rivers Brown using the same attention to detail as he brings to Schrader Cellars.
Double Diamond also has the potential to age gracefully if cellared. That, however, demands a certain level of self-control to overcome the temptation to indulge in the wine’s sumptuous red fruit profile, interwoven with notes of savory sweet bay, cassis, and plum that make the wine a delight upon release.
We have a one time shot of the Double Diamond Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2021. 2021 is a great Napa Vintage 96pt Parker Vintage, 97pts Wine Spectator for the vintage. Thomas-Rivers comments, ‘The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon stands to outshine the award-winning 2019 vintage with even deeper concentration and complexity.’ 2021 is a great vintage for this wine! Please Enjoy!
