2021 Dumol Chard Charles Heintz (Isobel) 750ML
2021 Dumol Chard Charles Heintz (Isobel) 750ML The 2021 Chardonnay Isobel Charles Heintz Vineyard is the 20th bottling of a Heintz Vineyard Chardonnay at Dumol. It was harvested September 25-27, matured in larger barrels and finished with six months in stainless steel. “There are very few better vintages of this,” winemaker Andy Smith exclaims during our tasting, and I have to agree. It’s bursting with scents of matchstick, chamomile, Greek yogurt and white peach, and over time, it unfurls unique spicy, herbal undertones. The palate is intensely concentrated, boasting expansive, dynamic flavors that segue from stone fruit to honey. Satiny and seamless, it has a tremendously long finish with mind-altering depth of flavor. Fans of Burgundy will love it for its flinty tones, and fans of California for its concentration and power. 98pts Parker’s WA
Intense aromas of dried fruits such as lemons and peaches with lemongrass and botanicals. Flinty. Full and intense with dried pineapple and creamy yet firm textured phenolics. Lots of solid character here. Extremely flavorful with salted caramel. Hints of oiliness with bright acidity. Fantastic. This is one of the best I have had from here. Drink or hold. Vinous
The Chardonnay of Dumol rival the finest made in California and with each passing year it gets harder and harder to get the wines. Dumol Chards rival the finest, up there with likes of Marcassin, Aubert, Kistler, Arista and Peter Michael. This is a beautiful partnership between owner Kerry Murphy and the brilliant winemaker Andy Smith. Winemaker, Andy Smith a native of Edinburgh, Scotland who fell in love with wine, interned under Paul Hobbs, was actually sponsored by Hobbs to become a US citizen. The original winemaker for Dumol died after his first vintage and they called Hobbs to come and save the day, Smith with Hobbs blessing took over and has been making the wines ever since, some 25 years. He also consults for great Napa producer Larkmead.
Dumol’s wines are highly allocated and extremely hard to get. The breadth of high-quality, complex Chardonnay they have consistently produced is stunning. I recently tasted with Dumol and we have just secured a tiny amount of the 2021 Dumol Single Vineyard Isobel Charles Heinz to offer. The 2021 Charles Heintz Vineyard Isobel Chardonnay is one of the richest examples in recent memory from this classic coastal site perched at 1,000 feet elevation on a ridgeline high above Green Valley, some eight miles from the Pacific. It’s clearly more intense, deeper and more complex. The wine got a huge 98pts by Parker’s WA and is an absolute stunningly, spectacular Chardonnay. Andy Smith commented, “This is possibly the finest vintage we’ve made from here,” and this is the 20th vintage they have made. This is pinnacle quality, with amazing power, riveting fruit with depth and length in huge abundance. Our price is strong. Chardonnay lovers this is as good as it gets!
