2021 Maxen Silver Eagle Pinot Noir 750ML
2021 Maxen Silver Eagle Pinot Noir 750ML The 2021 Pinot Noir Silver Eagle Vineyard was matured for 11 months in Remond, Taransaud and Chassin oak barrels. It has very pure, layered aromas of wild berry jam, blood orange, allspice, autumn leaves and amaro. The medium-bodied palate is bright and silky with layer after layer of detailed fruit. Its generous new oak is already well integrated, and it has a very long finish. It’s stunning straight from the bottle but will be long lived in the cellar. 400 cases produced.
When this wine was released it changed the playing, like Helen Turley’s Marcassin when it was first released. The balance and the layering of flavors, the complexity and elegance were like few ever seen before. The 2021 Maxen Silver Eagle Pinot Noir is made by the brilliant Sam Kaplan who has been instrumental in establishing and growing houses like Arkenstone and Memento Mori. Maxem is a project he developed with his wife Nancy, a chef who has experience in some of the finest Michelin-star restaurants in the US. Maxem is a combination of their children’s name, Max and Emma. In Latin it also means “best of the best”. The wine comes from a great vineyard in the Sonoma Coast (we can’t say which) from a clone from Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy, home to DRC. A huge 95pts by Parker’s WA establishes the wines pedigree. I love great Pinot Noir and this is one of them!
