2022 Poggio le Volpe Roma Rosso
If you have been to Rome and had a Porchetta sandwich, you probably had a glass of Roma Rosso, the most popular wine served in and around Rome. The Roma Rosso that we bring you today is the Poggio le Volpe Roma Rosso 2022. The wine got a huge 98pts by Luca Maroni (like the Wine Spectator of Italy) plus we have a great price on the wine. The Merge family have been growing vines since 1920 and three generations later it has flourished into Poggio le Volpe. Located in the region of Lazio between Rome and Tuscany. Felice Marge combines traditional winemaking with state-of-the-art technology resulting in outstanding wines that are made with passion and commitment. This spectacular blend that is mainly Montepulciano and Syrah (Syrah is famous from Lazio) is made as an ode to Rome. History in a glass. I have been a fan of Lazio from way back when I was introduced the Shiraz/Syrah from Casale del Giglio. The wine is one of the great Syrah for the money one can buy. Wines from Lazio when you do your homework can be both delicious and affordable. This is one of the finest I have tasted. Lazio as a region has massive potential. Vinous recently commented on Lazio, “No other lesser-known wine region in Italy that has more potential for fine winemaking than does Lazio.” This is a great wine from Italy’s most exciting up and coming region for red wine. Insane quality with huge 45% savings and a massive 98pts by Maroni. One of the great value reds coming out of Italy today. I strongly recommend.
Wonderfully deep, dark ruby red color with a beautiful shine. Very intense and complex nose with lots of ripe black and red fruit like cherries on alcohol, blackberries, wild berries and plum accompanied by spicy impressions of cardamom, nutmeg and black pepper. Notions of undergrowth and a hint of sweet balsamic vinegar emerge in the impressively long and tasty finish.
Deep red berry, with a nose of ripe red fruits, cherries, red flowers with hints of Balsamic. Very smooth and supple in the mouth. Excellent balance and elegance with tannins that tickle and long on the finish.
