The Pinot Noir of DuMol rival the finest made in California and with each passing year it gets harder and harder to get the wines. This is a beautiful partnership between owner Kerry Murphy and the brilliant winemaker Andy Smith. Approaching its 25th anniversary, the breadth of high-quality, complex Pinot Noirs they have consistently produced is stunning. Winemaker is Andy Smith a native of Edinburgh, Scotland who fell in love with wine, interned under Paul Hobbs, was actually sponsored by Hobbs to become a US citizen. The original winemaker for DuMol died after his first vintage and they cold Hobbs to come and save the day, Smith with Hobbs blessing took over and has been making the wines ever since. He also consults for great Napa producer Larkmead. He is one of California’s most talented winemakers.
Quantities of the wines made are tiny and just about all is allocated to the winery and fine restaurants. We have been able to secure a great price specially for Thanksgiving. The wine is selection of specific rows from DuMOL Estate, Dutton, Widdoes and Occidental Road vineyards. The wine is classic, lush rich Russian River Pinot fruit with superb purity, awesome layering, love the depth of flavor and the glorious lingering mouthwatering finish. This is as good as Russian River Pinot Noir gets and 2022 is a strong vintage, the wine’s are ouanding and accessible. Very Limited! Cali Pinot lovers, this is a buy!
The 2023 DuMOL “Wester Reach” Pinot Noir is a multi-layered blend from three sub-districts in the Russian River Valley, including vineyards on the valley floor and high elevation coastal ridges. It is characterized by a blend of valley-floor texture, ridgeline fruit intensity, and bright coastal acidity. Winemaker notes highlight its “pure and fresh” style, with notes of Bing cherry, wild blackberry, and cardamom.
