Bouchaine is the oldest continuously operating winery in Napa Valley’s Carneros region, they must be doing something right. They trace their history back to the 1880’s, a Missouri-born settler named Quincy Boonfly planted grapes and fruit trees on the property. An Italian winemaker named Johnny Garetto bought the land in 1927 and farmed it until 1961, when he sold to Beringer. And later purchased by Gerret and Tatiana Copeland, along with 30 acres of the surrounding land. Bouchaine is nestled in one of California’s most celebrated appellations making some of the finest Chardonnay in the US. Winemaker Chris Kajani is a native of Napa, fell in love with Burgundian varietals on trips to Europe, UC Davis trained and previously winemaker at Chardonnay Star, Saintsbury. She employs native yeast fermentation and ages the wine in French oak to build complexity while preserving the brightness and integrity of the fruit grown in Carneros’ fog-cooled, long hangtime vineyards.
