Bouchaine is the oldest continuously operating winery in Napa Valley’s Carneros region, they must be doing something right. They trace their history back to the 1880’s, a Missouri-born settler named Quincy Boonfly planted grapes and fruit trees on the property. An Italian winemaker named Johnny Garetto bought the land in 1927 and farmed it until 1961, when he sold to Beringer. And later purchased by Gerret and Tatiana Copeland, along with 30 acres of the surrounding land. Bouchaine is nestled in one of California’s most celebrated cool climate appellations making some of the finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the US. Bouchaine is famous for the wine they make from these two grapes. The 2022 Bouchaine Estate Pinot Noir is a great example of this.
Winemaker Chris Kajani is a native of Napa, fell in love with Burgundian varietals on trips to Europe, UC Davis trained and previously winemaker at Pinot Star, Saintsbury .She employs native yeast fermentation and ages the wine in French oak to build complexity while preserving the brightness and integrity of the fruit grown in Carneros’ fog-cooled, long hangtime vineyards. This wine has been on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 and always gets great rating and press. There’s a lot going on in this wine at the price of $40 to $50 a bottle. Now for the good news we have the wine down to a crazy low price of 26.99. This is hard-core real deal, cool climate, famous Pinot Noir at a ridiculously low price. If you love real Pinot Noir, not some 60% Pinot Noir 40% other things made-up, manufactured Pinot Noir, this is a must buy! If you want to try what top quality California Pinot Noir is all about and don’t want the price. Do yourself a favor and get this wine.
