Château Belle-Vue ‘La Renaissance’ is the flagship red blend of Château Belle-Vue, produced from organically farmed vineyards high in Bhamdoun, Mount Lebanon. Meaning “rebirth,” La Renaissance represents the revival of Bhamdoun’s historic winemaking heritage and is crafted from low-yielding, hand-harvested vines grown on the mountain terraces. The wine is primarily a Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with the proportions varying slightly by vintage. Its high-altitude vineyards, dry Mediterranean climate and clay-limestone soils create naturally concentrated fruit while preserving freshness and balance. The wine is aged for approximately 24 months in French oak, followed by further bottle ageing, giving it remarkable depth and maturity.
In the glass, La Renaissance displays an intense deep ruby to garnet colour. The bouquet is richly layered, opening with aromas of blackberry, black cherry, ripe plum and red berries, accompanied by warm spices, freshly ground black pepper and subtle balsamic herbs. More developed notes of tobacco, cedar, leather, eucalyptus and earthy forest floor can emerge with age, while dark chocolate, cocoa and toasted almond add a luxurious dimension. The combination of ripe fruit and savoury, earthy aromas gives the wine an unmistakably complex and mature character.
On the palate, Château Belle-Vue ‘La Renaissance’ is full-bodied yet elegant, with a beautifully concentrated core of dark red and black fruit. Flavours of blackberry, Morello cherry, plum and cassis are complemented by dark chocolate, cocoa, liquorice and warm spice. The Merlot contributes softness, richness and a supple texture, while Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure, freshness and refined tannins. French oak ageing introduces subtle layers of cedar, vanilla, toasted bread and spice, while the wine’s mineral and balsamic nuances add further definition. The result is a sophisticated balance between ripe fruit, polished tannins, oak complexity and vibrant acidity.
The finish is long, smooth and persistent, leaving lingering impressions of dark berries, chocolate, cocoa, cedar, spice and subtle herbal notes. Fine yet structured tannins provide an elegant framework, while balanced acidity keeps the wine fresh and focused through the finish. With bottle age, La Renaissance develops additional layers of tobacco, leather, earth, dried fruit and savoury spice, demonstrating the strong ageing potential for which the wine is known. Recent critical recognition has continued to highlight its elegance, structure and mature complexity.
Food Pairing: This refined Lebanese red is an excellent partner for grilled steak, roast beef, lamb, venison and other game meats. Its dark fruit and savoury complexity also complement slow-cooked beef, lamb shoulder, beef short ribs, Lebanese grilled meats, roasted vegetables and hearty stews. For cheese, pair it with aged Cheddar, mature Gouda, Comté or other firm, full-flavoured cheeses that can match its rich fruit and structured tannins.
Serving Suggestion: Serve at approximately 16–18°C to allow the wine’s fruit, spice, oak and earthy character to express itself fully. A young or recently opened bottle benefits from 30–60 minutes of decanting, allowing the tannins to soften and revealing additional layers of blackberry, chocolate, cedar, tobacco and spice. Serve in a large Bordeaux-style red wine glass to enhance its aromatic complexity and appreciate its silky texture, balanced structure and long, elegant finish.
