2021 Chateau du Carrubrier Rose Cuvee d’ Aurore
2021 Chateau du Carrubrier Rose Cuvee d’ Aurore Pale salmon skin. Mineral-tinged red currant, raspberry, blood orange and white peach scents are complemented by a suave lavender nuance that builds in the glass. Silky and penetrating on the palate, offering concentrated red berry and pit fruit flavors sharpened by a bitter suggestion of orange pith. Finishes very long and smooth, with repeating floral and pit fruit notes.
Based on grenache, with cinsault, Syrah and Mourvèdre, it’s rich, smooth and peachy, seasoned with a touch of orange zest and herbs. The fruit’s ripeness is balanced by the crunchiness of the acidity, striking an addictive balance.
We take our Rose very seriously at Hillside. There are so many ordinary Rose out there. We put the same amount of time, energy and effort into finding great Rose as we do a great Brunello. The results is the wine I bring you today, a definite rose on the top of the value summit, upending wines that are double to triple its price. One of the reasons the wine is so good is the it comes from same of the terroir in Provence. It comes from the same contiguous plain as the vineyards of the benchmark Rose, Domaine Ott, considered by many to be the finest Rose made in France, sells for about $60 a bottle. The wine is the Chateau du Carrubrier Rose Cuvee d’ Aurore 2021 and it is mouthwatering and spectacularly textured Côtes de Provence, among the greatest steals in the hyper-competitive space of French Rose. The wine won numerous gold medals across Europe and we will put it against any Cotes de Provence ant any price. The wine displays an added level than other Rose, more complexity, the gorgeous strawberry, peach and watermelon fruit has more depth and lusciousness, lovely minerality and energy. I loved the texture, the vivid fruit and the superb supple finish. The wines are made by top Provencal Rose oenologist specialist Gilles Baud. I tasted last night and I am recommending strongly for the upcoming Summer months. Enjoy!
