Chateau Gloria 2016

Founded by Henri Martin, Château Gloria is an iconic reference among fine Saint-Julien Bordeaux, one of the great appellations situated on the left bank of Bordeaux famous for their Cabernet based wines. The 2016 Chateau Gloria is considered one of the great wines of the vintage, sending Gloria in another stratosphere. It is one of the great success stories of this great vintage. Getting a huge 96pts by Vinous a score normally given to St Julien’s like Ducru and Las Cases that sell for $200 to $300 a bottle. Vinous called the wine, “one of the undisputed stars of the vintage” The richness and depth of the vintage have resulted in many hailing the wine as the finest Gloria ever. With time in the bottle, the wine is starting to show itself but this wine is built for the cellar and if you can help it, I would lay it down. 2016 is an all-time great vintage, 97pts by Parker’s WA and 97pts by Wine Spectator.  St Julien and Pauillac in particular were standout in 2016 with many estates producing their most memorable wine ever, which is surely a mark of a great vintage. Priced under $60, this is a great buy for hard core left bank Bordeaux of such great quality from a classic vintage.

“Plum color, with spiced damson and raspberry leaf aromatics. A good few years from being truly open and ready to drink, this is nevertheless superbly enjoyable, even if closed in. Unrolls to show waves of cocoa bean, dark chocolate shavings, espresso, crushed rocks, bilberry and blackcurrant fruits. The chewy tannins are confident and dominating the structure, exerting quiet control over the shape and form of the palate. Bursting with potential.“
