St Emilion Bordeaux
Across the street from Chateau Valandraud lies Chateau Mangot and not it does not cost $200, in fact its under $40. Mangot dates back to 1556 and it is now in the hands of the third generation of the Todeschini family who have taken this historic property to the next level.
Notes of minty blackberries, cherries and plums preface the 2020 Todeschini Distique 13, a medium to full-bodied, deep and layered wine that’s more concentrated and structured than the regular Château Mangot, featuring a more elevated percentage of Cabernet and seeing élevage in barrels, foudres and amphorae. It will require a bit more patience.
Deep ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, faint brightening on rim. Fresh red and black wild berries, a hint of liquorice, delicate fig and nougat, tobacco nuances, inviting bouquet. Complex, juicy, finely savoury on the palate, integrated, supporting tannins, mineral, a hint of black tea on the finish, long, safe ageing potential. 95pts Fallstaff
