The Château Pierre 1er is a very pretty, mid-weight Saint-Émilion that comes from some amazing terroir. The estates 27 acres of vines are located between the Château Cheval Blanc and Figeac. The grape varieties here are 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc and the property practices sustainable viticulture. Made in partnership with celebrated winemaking consultant Michel Rolland, Pierre 1er offers a delightfully fruity and rich wine. It shows nice roundness and length in the mouth with black fruit notes, and it hint of vanilla and spice. It is fruity and smooth with nice minerality on the palate along with blackcurrant, blackberry, and cocoa.
Deep purple-black colored, the 2020 Pierre 1er comes barreling out of the glass with bold scents of baked blackberries, stewed black plums and mince pie, plus hints of menthol, black olives and charcoal. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with juicy black fruits, supported by finely grained tannins and bags of freshness, finishing long and layered. 92pts Parker
This is a solid red with lots of blackberry, crushed-stone, pine-needle and iron character. It’s full-bodied with layers of ripe, chewy tannins that are polished and poised. Extremely well crafted. A top wine from here. 96pts Suckling
The 2020 Pierre 1er is a very pretty, mid-weight Saint-Émilion. Ripe red-toned fruit, mocha, spice and rose petal are nicely amplified. Supple and forward, but not at all heavy, the Pierre 1er is an attractive, forward Saint-Émilion that will drink well right out of the gate. 92pts Vinous
