Claude Manciat Pouilly Fuisse 2023
Claude Manciat is one of a handful of top-flight producers in the Macon, the southern part of the Burgundy famous for white wine and specifically Pouilly Fuisse. Prices for Pouilly Fuisse keep increasing with quality wines selling for $35 to $50 a bottle. Manciat own some of the finest Pouilly Fuisse vineyards and make spectacular wines. In fact, they were forced to change their label. Their previous name was Clos Noly however the terroir that the label was named after received Premier Cru Status.
Five Manciat generations have made wines in the Macon. Today Claude’s daughter Marie -Pierre Manciat runs the show, energetic and passionate about making wine and you can see it the wines. The 2023 Claude Manciat Pouilly Fuisse ‘Courtelong’ absolutely blew me away. Marie-Pierre keeps yields way down 30% less than what’s allowed resulting in a richer, more concentrated and intense wine yet still remaining focused with minerality from the Calcaire solis that Pouilly Fuisse is so famous for. We have been able to get the price of the wine down to $26.99 making this a steal of a Pouilly Fuisse perfect for summer.
