2016 Paul Chapelle Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Hameau de Blagny 750ML
2016 Paul Chapelle Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Hameau de Blagny 750ML This exquisite wine is full and ripe, a classic expression of a superior quality Puligny Premier Cru. A fine signature wine Hameau de Blagny produces wine of high quality combining finesse and tension. Early on, the aromas hint of white flowers (hawthorn acacia) citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit), white fruit an toast that evolve and progressively blend together to produce a lively, tense and elegant wine.
White Burgundy are on a plane all their own. Their complexity, layering and length make them some of the greatest wine experiences I have ever had. Great white Burgundy needs time in the bottle to truly show itself. Today’s wine is a great example of that. Paul Chapelle is famous in Burgundy as consulting winemaker for some of the finest Domaine’s in all of Burgundy and greatest white wines including Domaine’s Ramonet, Michel Lafarge, François Jobard, Paul Pernot, Simon-Bize, Hubert de Montille and Domaine de la Pousse d’Or. This is a who’s who list of the greatest estates in the southern half of Burgundy! During this time Chappelle painstakingly put together some great vineyard parcels in Puligny, Meursault and Santenay. With his daughters he started Domaine Paul Chapelle.
I have tiny amount of his 2016 Paul Chapelle Puligny Montrachet Premier Cru Hameau de Blagny to offer. Only 1200 bottles of the wine were made, rich and powerful, made from the vineyards oldest vines exceeding 80 years of age. These old vines produce a deep, powerfully Puligny that really offers some of the depth and power of a Grand Cru. Very lucky discovery
