2018 Collemattoni Brunello di Montalcino 750ML
2018 Collemattoni Brunello di Montalcino 750ML “Black cherry and plum with a touch of smoke , vanilla. And toast on the nose. Powdery tannins coat the mouth and has a long persistence. Powerful and fresh while a little warming on the finish.” 97pts Decanter
Brilliant red with burgundy reflects. Wild black fruits, black cherry and noble wood on the nose. Great body & elegance; warm, dry and persistent.
Once in a while I taste a wine that reminds of how much I love wine. This wine is that wine. Collemattoni was founded my by brothers Adon & Marcello Bucci and is a labor of love. The winery is named for the farmhouse that has become its trademark. The farmhouse dates back to at least 1672, when it was registered in the parish archives as a family home. They own five small vineyards in different areas of the Southern part of Montalcino community: from South East to South West. This allows to have a very balanced Brunello di Montalcino – a mix of structure and elegance. They absolutely nailed it with the Collemattoni Brunello 2018. I let the wine open up for over an hour. The wine has glorious balance, elegance and complexity matched with power and structure. The purity of the fruit is breathtaking, will age superbly and the wine is a bargain at $54.99. The wine got huge press, massive 97pts by decanter and the top Platinum Award at the 2023 Decanter World Wine Awards (Platinum compares to being on Wine Spectator’s Top 100). Put this wine away in your cellar and when you open it down the road, you will not believe how little you paid for it. You are going to ask yourself the question. Why did I not buy more?
