2019 Marc Hebrart Brut Special Club 750ML
2019 Marc Hebrart Brut Special Club 750ML Hébrart has holdings in a number of top sites in both the Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs but is a specialist in the great village of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, where you find top spots like the Clos des Goisses and Selosse’s Sous le Mont. “The nose shows a lot of freshness and balance already with Vanilla, pears, white flowers, apples, peaches, quince, baking spices, biscuits, mineral tones, mint, and a good bit of saline. There is excellent depth with a nuanced side as well that really draws you in.”
A very expressive nose with an explosion of aromas, cream, pastry, white flowers (lilac, lily of the valley), acidulous candy, fresh fruit such as peach, apricot. On the palate it is well balanced, rich, full of finesse and very fresh. Opulent aromas of white fruit, cream, butter and candy lead to a complex, very long finish with notes of citrus and minerality. A remarkable and elegant champagne perfect as an aperitif or to accompany smoked salmon.
The finest quality Champagne’s at the best prices are Growers Champagnes. For centuries Champagne has been controlled buy the names like Veuve Cliquot, Moet Cahndon or Bollinger. They purchase a large portion of their grapes from the growers who sell their grapes to these big houses often having long term contracts. It acts very much like the big negotiants in Burgundy. The big names all come with hefty price tags, and part of what you pay for is to cover advertising costs and buyouts. When the growers realized that there grapes were going into bottles that sell for big money. They started making Champagne under their own names and the Grower Champagne movement began. The secret I tell my customers is to focus on small domains that make high quality Champagne at wonderful prices. These wines are very hard to find, but oh so worth the search. Most never make it to America. The best way to do this is to carefully examine the label. There are two tiny letters that appear on either the front label or rear labels. These letters will indicate whether the Champagne was produced by a large négociant, or whether it was crafted by one of the smaller, independent growers that literally control every production aspect “from the vine to the wine.” So what are the letters to look for? They’re NM (négociant-manipulant) and RM (récoltant-manipulant). But let’s simplify it for you, think of NM as “not mine” and RM: as “really mine.” .The RM Champagnes are also known as Grower’s Champagnes and they represent stunning quality at exceptional prices.
Now the growers wanted to showcase their top quality, very much like the big houses have their top Tete de Cuvees. Moet makes Dom Perignon or Roederer makes Cristal. The growers started the ‘Special Club’ which is not made in every vintage and represents their absolute finest quality and they are far less money than the Tete de Cuvees. The 2019 vintage for Champaigne is spectacular, receiving 95pts by Parker’s WA, making it the highest rated vintage since 2013, ten years. There are some 30 Special Club’s now made and today I bring you one of my favorites in the excellent 2019 vintage. We have a great price on the great 2019 Marc Hebrart Champagne “Special Club”. They started making Champagne under their own name in 1964 and their first Special Club in 1985. A must for fans of the finest Champagne.
