Top Of The Mountain, Great 2018 Vintage With Time In The Bottle
Neighbors Dominus, Laird and Blankiet Under $100.
Rare to find a great Napa Cab with time in the bottle from a great vintage in its drinking window. This is hard core top of the mountain Napa Cab that started back in the 1970’s with Ken Laird family and the great Robert Mondavi. Mondavi liked the land so much in Napa that Laird was going to that they struck up a deal where Mondavi agreed to purchase half of Lairds grapes to help Laird finance the purchase and as they say the rest is history. Laird makes spectacular Napa Cab, led by Winemaker Brian Mox, started out at MIT, fell in love with food and wine, ended up in Napa, made wines for Tony Soter at Etude as well as Stags Leap and Pine Ridge. Today I bring you the spectacular 2018 Lairs Cabernet Flat Rock Ranch Vineyard from Yountville in Napa. The vineyard sits where Yountville Cross Road meets the Silverado trail. This is god’s country when it comes to Napa Cab, neighbors include Dominus, Lail and Blankiet. This is Laird’s flagship and priced under $100 a bottle an absolute steal when compared to others in this zone. The wine comes from the 2018 vintage, in Napa an all-time great getting 99pts by Wine Spectator call it a spectacular year. Decanter hails the vintage as belonging in an echelon with the finest of the past two decades and 96pts by Parker’s WA. Best from 2024 through 2036, cellar or dink over the Fall and Winter.
