Dominique Piron Morgon Cote de Py 2023

The ultimate red wine for your Thanksgiving table are the great Cru Beaujolais from the southern part of the Burgundy. Many consider the greatest Cru in Beaujolais is Morgon and everybody knows that the finest area within Morgon is Cote de Py.  Côte du Py is the heart of Morgon, a little hill of very old blue stone rocks – the oldest soils of Beaujolais (around 430 million years old), with a typical blue color. Côte du Py has been known for centuries for being the best terroir of the village, producing long-lived wines with strong structure and flavors. Wines of the Côte du Py are very dark, profound and dense with excellent aromas of red berries, cherry, kirsch that low through to the palate seamlessly. Excellent fruit dominates, rounded out minerality in the mouth with spicy notes of black and white pepper. The Dominique Piron Morgon Cote de Py 2023 is absolutely perfect with Turker or other white meats and all the fixings we so enjoy on Thanksgiving.  Made from 50+ year old vines, grapes are handpicked to ensure only the finest quality grapes and only the finest barrels go into this wine. Dominique Piron’s oldest known ancestor was born in Morgon in 1590. Since then, there have been 14 generations of wine growers in the family. Piron wines are traditional. They express the soil from which they come from. It is a compromise between the search for the best tannins and the preservation of finesse, elegance and purity. A moderate maturation in barrels brings roundness without being overwhelming. This philosophy is perfect for these types of wines and this wine is an absolutely stunning example.
