This is a great Napa Cab Buy! Freemark Abbey dates back to 1886. It was the 16th bonded winery in the region and was the only Winery to send both a red and white wine to the famous Paris Tasting that put Napa Valley on the Map forever. Freemark Abbey is famous for the great Cabernet they make. Today, Jackson Family Wines owns the Freemark Abbey. They have put together a portfolio of some of the famous Napa properties: including blue chip La Jota, Lokoya and Cardinale. The wines were made by Ted Edwards for a remarkable 40 years and has now been taken over by Kristy Melton, one of the up and comer rock star winemaker’s in Napa, making wine at Clos du Val and Saintsbury and was in charge for three years in the Jackson Family’s Bordeaux operation. Her goal is to continue the commitment to making classically structured, age worthy cabs. Kristy made a great wine that is approachable now and will improve in the cellar for decades. The wine is sourced from some of the finest parts of Napa including: Rutherford, Oakville, and Stagecoach. This is hard core, classic Napa Cab with great press and pedigree

Winemaker Kristy Melton notes that all estate fruit is now certified organic and regenerative, and she has continued to refine the winemaking approach. Beginning with the previous vintage, Melton shortened the oak aging period for the Napa-tier Cabernet Sauvignon from 24–30 months to 18–20 months. Starting with the 2022 vintage, all single-vineyard wines will also be bottled unfined and unfiltered. The 2022 Cabernet reflects the ripe, juicy dark-fruit profile of the warm vintage, with layers of blue fruit compote and kirsch. On the palate, it’s plush and satiny, with impressive depth of fruit, plump, fine-grained tannins, and a long fig-laced finish. Approachable now, but structured enough to evolve beautifully over the next decade. Aged 20 months in 47% new French oak.
