GIODO BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO R
Giodo Brunello di Montalcino is an elegant and deeply expressive interpretation of Tuscany’s celebrated Brunello tradition, crafted by Podere Giodo in the hills of Montalcino. Made exclusively from carefully selected Sangiovese, the wine comes from mature vines cultivated around 300–400 metres above sea level, where the combination of elevation, exposure and pebble-rich soils contributes to its balance, aromatic intensity and distinctive structure. Only the finest, healthiest clusters are selected for the Brunello, reflecting Giodo’s philosophy of pursuing elegance, depth and precision rather than excessive power. Following fermentation and extended skin contact, the wine undergoes long maturation in French oak before additional ageing in concrete and bottle, allowing the fruit, tannins and savoury complexity to integrate beautifully.
In the glass, Giodo Brunello reveals an intense ruby-red colour with developing garnet nuances, presenting the visual depth expected from a serious, traditionally structured Sangiovese. The bouquet is complex and refined, opening with aromas of ripe cherry, sour cherry, raspberry, redcurrant and darker berry fruit. Elegant floral notes of violet and rose petal are interwoven with Mediterranean herbs, rosemary and subtle earthy nuances. As the wine opens, layers of cedar, tobacco, sweet spices, cinnamon, liquorice and delicate vanilla emerge, accompanied by hints of leather, tea and mineral earthiness.
On the palate, Giodo Brunello di Montalcino is intense, silky, structured and beautifully balanced, combining the vibrant acidity characteristic of Sangiovese with polished, fine-grained tannins. Juicy cherry, sour cherry, raspberry and red plum form the core, while darker fruit and savoury elements gradually add depth. Notes of tobacco, cedar, coffee, cocoa, liquorice and sweet spice develop alongside subtle dried-herb and earthy nuances. Its extended maturation in French oak contributes gentle vanilla, toast and spice, while the subsequent time in concrete and bottle helps preserve freshness and allows the wine to develop a remarkably smooth, harmonious texture. The overall character is powerful without being heavy, with richness carefully balanced by freshness and precision.
The finish is exceptionally long, persistent and refined, with layers of ripe cherry, red berries, dried herbs, tobacco, cedar, liquorice and subtle earthy spice lingering gracefully. Fine tannins provide structure and length, while the bright acidity keeps the finish energetic and clean. With further bottle age, Giodo can develop additional tertiary complexity, including leather, forest floor, dried flowers, tobacco and savoury mineral notes, making it an excellent choice for both immediate enjoyment and long-term cellaring.
Food Pairing: Giodo Brunello di Montalcino is an exceptional match for rich Tuscan and Italian cuisine. Pair it with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, grilled ribeye, roast beef, braised beef, lamb, venison and wild boar. It is particularly well suited to pappardelle with wild-boar ragù, meat-based pasta sauces, porcini mushroom risotto, truffle dishes and slow-cooked game. The wine also pairs beautifully with roasted poultry and mature cheeses such as Pecorino Toscano and Parmigiano-Reggiano, whose savoury character complements its acidity and refined tannic structure.
Serving Suggestion: Serve at approximately 16–18°C to allow the wine’s fruit, acidity, tannins and savoury complexity to show at their best. A younger bottle benefits from 45–60 minutes of breathing or gentle decanting, giving its aromatic layers and oak nuances time to unfold. Mature vintages should be handled more carefully and decanted only as necessary. Serve in a generous Burgundy or large Bordeaux-style red wine glass to fully express the wine’s aromas of cherry, violet, herbs, tobacco, spice and earthy complexity.
