Lagarde Primeras Viñas Gualtallary Malbec 2021 is an elegant and distinctive expression of high-altitude Malbec from Gualtallary in Mendoza’s prestigious Uco Valley. Crafted from carefully selected grapes grown at approximately 1,380 metres above sea level, this 100% Malbec showcases the unique personality of a vineyard characterized by calcareous, stony soils and exceptional sunlight. Part of Lagarde’s exclusive Primeras Viñas collection, the wine combines vibrant fruit, delicate floral aromas, subtle mineral complexity, refined tannins, and beautifully integrated French oak. The 2021 vintage offers an impressive balance of intensity, freshness, elegance, and length, expressing the distinctive terroir of Gualtallary with remarkable precision.

Deep intense red in color with attractive violet reflections, it opens with expressive aromas of ripe plum, red and dark cherries, raspberries, and delicate violets. Subtle mineral nuances add a distinctive sense of place, while gentle hints of vanilla, spice, and finely integrated oak contribute additional complexity. The floral character is particularly elegant, bringing freshness and lift to the rich fruit profile, while the high-altitude origin gives the wine an appealing combination of concentration and aromatic precision.

Vibrant acidity provides freshness and definition, while fine, polished tannins create a smooth and refined texture. Its carefully managed maturation in large French oak vessels allows the wood to remain beautifully integrated, preserving the wine’s freshness, purity, and distinctive Gualtallary personality.

The finish is long, fresh, elegant, and persistent, leaving lingering impressions of ripe plum, blackberry, violet, raspberry, subtle pepper, and delicate mineral nuances. With an ageing potential of more than 15 years, it offers both immediate elegance and the structure required for further development in bottle.

Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with grilled and roasted red meats, Argentine-style barbecue, beef tenderloin, lamb, game meats, slow-cooked stews, roasted vegetables, and hearty main courses. Its polished tannins and vibrant acidity work particularly well with grilled meats, while its mineral and floral character complements earthy ingredients and richly seasoned preparations. It also pairs wonderfully with hard and mature cheeses, as well as pasta with white, tomato, or truffle-based sauces.

Serving Suggestion: Best served at approximately 16–18°C. Allow the wine to breathe for 20–30 minutes before serving to encourage its layers of ripe fruit, violet, mineral, spice, and subtle oak to fully develop. Gentle decanting can further enhance its aromatic expression, particularly when enjoying the wine after several years of bottle ageing. Serve in a large red wine glass to fully appreciate its elegant texture, refined tannins, aromatic complexity, and distinctive high-altitude Gualtallary character.
