Luca is owned by Laura Catena is the daughter of Famous of the famous Nicolas Catena who pioneered the modern wine revolution in Argentina. Nicholas and his family always split time living in San Francisco and Argentina. In San Francisco he fell in love with wines from Napa, befriended one of Napa’s greatest winemakers Paul Hobbs and Hobbs was involved with Nicolas creating the famous Catena Wines. Laura also spends time between Mendoza and San Francisco where she is an emergency physician and university professor. Luca is named after one of her children and focuses on incredible, limited production wines come from some of Argentina’s best fruit from low-yield, high-elevation, family-owned vineyards. The Luca Chardonnay has been one of their great success stories and one of my favorite Chardonnays that I have recommended for years to Wine lovers and customers. The wine is made from the famous “G-Lot” in Gualtallary, at an extreme 4,900 feet altitude. At $17.99 I urge you all to take advantage. California Chardonnay lovers, you will love this wine. Looking to buy some white wine for Summer, this your answer. An opportunity to serve real quality for entertaining and parties. I strongly recommend.
Beautiful pale-gold color with enticing aromas of lemon crème, baking spices and some notes of dulce de leche. The aromas carry through to the palate, and are joined by hints of tropical fruit, spiced baked pear. Creamy and flinty nose with lemon zest, pie crust, sour cream and a touch of meringue. Zesty and bright on the palate with a medium to full body and a zingy and lengthy finish. Limey and lightly creamy at the same time. Acid-driven but eclectic. Fruit from Gualtallary. Drink or hold.
Pairs well with most fish, lobster, crab, chicken, and even many pork preparations. Particularly recommended with dishes using sautéed wild mushrooms or butter sauces. This wine will age well for years in a cellar.
