Marco Bonfante Barbaresco 2021

The great red wines of Piedmont and their great grape Nebbiolo age out spectacularly well developing incredible complexities in the bottle with time. I have been searching for a steal of a deal Barbaresco buy and I have found it. 2021 is one of the greatest Piedmont vintages ever. A landmark year, fuller than 2019 and more accessible than 2020 and many say reminiscent of the classic 1985 vintage. Decanter calls 2021 ‘a modern benchmark. Parker gave the vintage 97pts which is the 2nd highest ever in the last thirty years. The Wine Spectator gave the vintage 98pts which is the highest they have ever rated a Piedmont vintage, calling it a classic year.  When it comes to the top tier wines from Piedmont, If you find something under 50 bucks I’d tell you got a good deal. Under 40? You basically stole it. A Barbaresco for under 30 dollars? Does not exist! Until today, the Marco Bonfante Barbaresco 2021 can be had for $29.99, a savings of 40% and double 93pt ratings. The wine is superb, rich red fruit, with incredible herbal tones and tertiary notes of baking spices and cocoa. Great tannin- with a wonderful texture and an incredible potential for aging. What really impressed me is that its accessible now! The Bonfante family have been producing wine in Piedmont for 8 generations and this is a family affair and today run by brothers Marco and Micaela. Marco makes the wine graduating from the Oenological School of Alba enology . Consulting wine maker is Gianluca Scaglione who is a rising force in Piedmont making one of my favorite wines ever from Piedmont, Le Grive. Vineyards are managed by the maestro Daniel Eberly who is dedicated to the great heritage of Piedmont’s viticultural diversity. This is a great wine to experience the greatness of Barbaresco at a great price, down to $29.99.
