Rose Tavel Southern Rhone France
Considered The Finest Tavel Rose’s Made NRY Last Two Vintages Got 94pts Which Is Massive For Rose. A Reference Point Rose!
One of the great producers in the Southern Rhone. Domaine de la Mordoree (woodcock), located in the town of Tavel. In 1986, the brothers Christophe and Fabrice Delorme decided to dedicate themselves to their passion for wine. They started their own estate with the objective to produce the best wines in each appellation while preserving the environment. Tavel is famous for Rose and this is considered the finest Rose’s made in Tavel. This iconic wine is produced in the Vallongue plateau – a Villafranchienne terrace of cobble stones on sandy-clay base organically and biodynamically grown vineyard. In the glass the wine is deeply colored pink, almost orange/salmon. Complex aromas of white flowers, raspberry, pomegranate, strawberry, minerals, and citrus rise from the glass. Palate is full-bodied and voluptuous yet retains elegance while delivering great fruit intensity balanced by minerals and citrus. Light tannins appear mid-palate and carry through to the finish, giving it serious structure. Fresh, complex, and very long on the finish. Overall, powerful, textured, and food-driven — a “serious” Tavel that can age 1–5 years.
A biodynamically grown wine that is a Grenache-dominated blend of many varieties and derived from grapes grown on a rocky, sandy plateau. Deeply colored pink – almost orange. Complex aromas of white flowers, raspberry, pomegranate, strawberry, minerals and citrus. A full-bodied rosé with great fruit, minerals and citrus notes which provide a perfect balance. Light tannins drive from the middle to the end of the taste – a serious, complex rosé.
The 2024 Tavel La Reine des Bois is a brilliant effort, displaying a more floral, minty profile than its sibling cuvée, La Dame Rousse. Sourced from old vines rooted in sandy soils and galets roulés on the plateau de Vallongue, it bursts from the glass with aromas of crushed strawberries, raspberries, grapefruit, cherries and lilac. Full-bodied, broad and concentrated, the wine on the palate is layered and enveloping, built around a fleshy core of ripe fruit and framed by a fine, delicate tannic structure. A chalky tension underpins the long, focused finish, lending freshness and precision. This is a serious, vinous rosé with aging potential. 93pts Parker’s WA
