2018 Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignon State Ranch
2018 Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignon State Ranch Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon State Ranch was aged for 18 months in French oak, 50% new. Deep garnet-purple in color, the nose is redolent of chocolate-covered cherries, blackberry preserves and black currant jelly with touches of wild sage, cast iron pan and cardamom with a waft of cumin seed. Full-bodied, the palate bursts with crunchy black fruit and loads of spicy accents, supported by firm grainy tannins and tons of freshness, finishing long and lively 95pts Parker’s WA
From the outset, this is one powerful, deeply expressive Cabernet with heady black currant, plum, and cedar aromas leading into a big, juicy entry. Layered currant and black cherry flavors are accented by elegant clove notes. Bold, coating tannins support frame the entire wine, and hints of wet slate add dimension to a dark, brooding finish. Nickel & Nickel is a world-class winery located in the town of Oakville, situated along the prestigious Highway 29 in the heart of Napa. With neighbors such as Opus One Winery and Cardinale it’s no surprise that Nickel and Nickel’s offerings are as good as California wines can get. The estate was founded in 1997 and in less than 20 years their efforts have gained them being named in the Top 100 wineries in the World by Wine & Spirits magazine in 2013 and 2015. Nickel and Nickel became one of the first wineries in California focusing on single vineyard bottlings. I have been able to secure some strong pricing on one of the highest scoring wines from the great 2018 vintage. The 2018 Nickel & Nickel Cabernet State Ranch, 95pts by Parker, it is located on State Lane in Yountville. Many all-time great Cabs come from this area along State Lane, wines like Kapscandy State Lane Grand Vin that has received 100pts by Parker multiple times is a stone throw away. 2018 is one of the standout great vintages from Napa. Wine Spectator gave the vintage 98pts, which is the highest rating they have given a vintage since 1997. Decanter magazine hails the vintage as one of the finest in the last 25 years. Parker’s Wine Advocate rated the vintage 96pts. The State Ranch is a truly world class Napa Cab and the only problem with the wine it is becoming increasingly difficult to aquire and as a result prices have gone up. This is the last time you will see this wine at this kind of price.
