ORMA TOSCANA R
Orma Toscana is a prestigious expression of the Bolgheri terroir on the Tuscan coast, crafted as the flagship wine of the Orma estate. Produced from a carefully balanced Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the wine reflects the estate’s philosophy of combining international varieties with the distinctive Mediterranean character of Bolgheri. The vineyards lie along the Bolgherese Road in an area influenced by the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea, with a favourable combination of soils, sunlight and cooling coastal breezes that encourage slow, balanced ripening. Since its first vintage in 2005, Orma has become one of the estate’s signature wines, recognized for its depth, elegance and refined expression of this exceptional Tuscan growing area.
In the glass, Orma displays an intense, luminous ruby-red colour with attractive purple reflections. The bouquet is immediately expressive, opening with layers of blackberry, blackcurrant, wild berries, dark cherry and ripe plum. Floral nuances add freshness, while subtle cedar, Mediterranean herbs, black pepper and gentle balsamic notes introduce a more savoury dimension. With aeration, deeper impressions of tobacco, liquorice, cocoa, sandalwood and sweet spice emerge, creating a sophisticated aromatic profile that combines ripe dark fruit with the elegant, earthy character of mature Bordeaux varieties. Recent tasting profiles have also highlighted cassis, wild berries, cedar and spice as defining aromatic elements.
On the palate, Orma is full-bodied, concentrated and beautifully polished, with a generous core of ripe dark fruit supported by vibrant freshness and well-integrated tannins. Blackberry, cassis, black cherry and plum unfold alongside nuances of cocoa, liquorice, cedar, tobacco and dark spice. Merlot contributes richness, softness and rounded texture, while Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and depth, and Cabernet Franc brings aromatic lift and freshness. The wine’s tannins are firm yet velvety, giving the palate an elegant framework without sacrificing its juicy character. Carefully integrated French oak adds subtle layers of vanilla, cedar, toast and warm spice, complementing rather than masking the purity of the fruit.
The finish is long, persistent and refined, carrying flavours of dark berries, cassis, black cherry, liquorice, cedar, tobacco and gentle spice across the palate. Its combination of polished tannins, fresh acidity and concentrated fruit gives the wine impressive length and balance. With bottle age, Orma can develop additional complexity, revealing more pronounced notes of leather, dried herbs, earthy undertones, tobacco and savoury spice. The result is a sophisticated Tuscan red that combines the generosity of Merlot with the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and the aromatic elegance of Cabernet Franc.
Food Pairing: Orma is an excellent partner for richly flavoured meat and Mediterranean cuisine. Pair it with grilled ribeye, dry-aged steak, roast beef, beef tenderloin, lamb, braised short ribs, venison and Tuscan-style grilled meats. It also works beautifully with wild-boar ragù, slow-cooked game, truffle and mushroom dishes, roasted vegetables and hearty pasta preparations. For cheese, serve alongside aged Pecorino Toscano, Parmigiano-Reggiano or other mature hard cheeses, whose savoury intensity complements the wine’s fruit, tannins and oak complexity.
Serving Suggestion: Serve at approximately 16–18°C to bring out its dark fruit, floral, herbal and spicy character. A young bottle benefits from 45–60 minutes of breathing or decanting, allowing the tannins and oak to integrate and the aromatic layers to unfold. Mature vintages should be decanted more gently when necessary. Serve in a generous Bordeaux-style red wine glass to provide enough space for the Cabernet and Merlot blend to fully express its depth, elegance and persistent finish.
