Napa; Carneros; CA
This wine is like a barn find! This time of year, after the holiday season, I have more time to do things. I was going through a ware house of wine where most of the wines were junk, hoping to find something special for our customers and there it was! Robert Mondavi’s Reserve series of wines are some of the finest made in Napa. I was able to find the Robert Mondavi Pinot Noir Reserve from the great 2016 vintage. 2016 is considered one of the greatest vintages this century. The wine is drinking superbly with the critics drinking window being: 2022 to 2030. The wine is sourced from select blocks of two of the finest Vineyards in Carneros: Rancho Carneros, from old dry farmed vines that add complexity and depth, and the famous, legendary Hyde Vineyard that adds elegance, structure and intensity. Mondavi’s goal with his Reserve Wines was to make wines that were as good as the finest of their kind. In this case Pinot Noir to be as good as the great Grand Cru’s of Burgundy. I tasted the wine Friday and with the time in the bottle this Pinot Noir displays the greatness of Pinot Noir, a bouquet that was alive and ever changing in the glass, the palate had so much going gone, inviting you back into the glass to find new intricacy’s and the finish was spectacularly long. I can almost taste it writing this email. The wine on release was $59.99 a bottle. We have been able to secure for $37.99. This is a one-time opportunity to experience what California Pinot Noir can achieve, from a legendary producer, from a great vintage with the time in the bottle.
