Tor makes some of the finest single vineyard Cabernet in Napa. Tor was founded by Tor Kenward. Tor has been in Napa for fifty years. The first 27 years he was at Beringer building their famous Private Reserve selections. He then started Tor in 2001 making Cabernet from the best blocks of the finest vineyards in Napa. Winemaker is Jeff Ames who Wine Spectator calls, “one of Napa’s rising stars”. Ames mentor is Thomas Rivers Brown who took Ames on when he was winemaker at Turley. He works with Brown at Napa greats: Schrader, Maybach, Outpost and TOR. Jeff took over at Tor where he has huge success and massive critical acclaim including 100pt Parker scores.
I am a huge fan of Pritchard Hill Cabernets. Today’s wine comes from a hugely anticipated single vineyard on Vaca Ridge which overlooks Lake Hennesy and across the way from Pritchard Hill. Prictchard Hill is home to some of Napa’s greatest and most expensive Cabs, Colgin and Bryant come to mind that sell $700 to $1000 a bottle. I tasted the 2021 Tor Vaca Ridge Vineyard Cabernet and my Napa Cab loving friends this wine is a buy! The wine got great press 96pts by IWR and 95pts by Parker’s WA. 2021 is a great Napa Vintage 96pt Parker Vintage, 97pts Wine Spectator for the vintage. Cabernet prices for this single vineyard are on the way up. Vaca Ridge has the potential to make some of Napa’s greatest Cabernet. From what I tasted Vaca Ridge is on the way. I have seen this wine already selling for as high as $250 a bottle. I strongly recommend!!
