2012 Giovanni Sordo Barolo Riserva
2012 Giovanni Sordo Barolo Riserva Only made in top vintages. From very intensely floral in the early years to characteristic goudron (tar) as it ages, through a multitude of scents which are always particularly seductive. Flavor: Probably the most potent of all our products, it perfectly summarizes the essential characteristics of Barolo wine, such as grand structure, excellent alcohol concentration, and tannins capable of guaranteeing very long aging. It opens up gradually and reaches its maximum and most important expression after aging for a few years; this leads to its release for sale in the sixth year after harvesting with an increasingly consistent part of the wine being held back for release in the tenth year.
The great Barolo’s from Giovanni Sordo have been getting monster press lately. There regular 2017 Barolo receiving 94pts by Wine Spectator as an example. I have been tasting the house and I have an amazing opportunity. The top Barolo a house makes is Their Barolo Riserva. The wine is sourced from the finest vineyards and is the greatest expression of Barolo a house makes. I have been able to secure a tiny amount of the 2012 Giovanni Sordo Barolo Riserva for under $50 bucks a bottle which is unheard of from a great producer. I just tasted the wine. The wine is starting to show superbly and has great complexity and length. This is an opportunity to experience hard core pedigree at a reasonable price. The wine can also be cellared for another 15 years with plenty of life going forward still has excellent weight and concentration with alive red fruits with glorious oak and rose petals. I’m thinking a white truffle extravaganza. Classic hard core Barolo at a great price. I have 12 cases and that’s it. Enjoy!
