2013 Arceno Arcanum Valadorna
2013 Arceno Arcanum Valadorna The first impression of the nose is earthy with notes of cypress, vanilla bean, and spice. There are deep fruit flavors of black cherries, plums and blueberries followed by pleasant hints of chocolate and dried rose petals. On the palate, the tannins are chewy and accompanied by lively acidity; contributing to a long finish dominated by flavors of dried figs and licorice. The 2013 Valadorna is a time bomb of joy that will stand the test of time and age well in the cellar if patience permits. Winemaker
The 2013 Valadorna (mostly Merlot with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot) is yet another home run in this blockbuster collection of new releases from Tenuta di Arceno in the southern part of Chianti Classico (Castelnuovo Berardegna). This is a firm and tightly knit expression that is packed tight with black fruit, tobacco, tar and dark chocolate. The wine shows enormous aromatic intensity, but then it slims down just a touch in the mouth to offer an elegantly tapered finish. 95pts Parker (Drink 2018 – 2035)
Super Tuscans, gorgeous Italian blends made in the heart of Italy’s most-important wine regions, are among the most-desired in the world. Sassicaia, Ornellaia and Solaia are resplendent examples of Super Tuscans and are hugely popular and expensive. We have found a steal in the stellar 2013 vintage, and we have discovered one of the absolute best. The Arcanum, Valadorna 2013 has been rated 95 points by Parker and the vintage for the region is one of the all-time greats.
It is rare we can offer a wine of this pedigree from a great vintage, that has had the time in the bottle to offer optimal drinking. 2013 is an all-time great vintage receiving a massive 96pt by Parker for the vintage, equaling the highest rating ever for Tuscany.
The wine is full-bodied, wonderfully supple with integrated tannins, glorious opulent berry fruit and at our price an absolute steal for what’s in the bottle. Winemaker is tremendous! In honor of its history, the name Arceno comes from the Etruscan word Archè, which means “point of origin”. The estate is located between two rivers: the Ambra, which flows to Florence, and the Ombrone, which flows to the Mediterranean. The Del Taja family purchased the land in 1504 and added architectural improvements. Then, in 1829 the estate was sold to the Piccolominis, one of the most illustrious families of Siena; who created the splendid outdoor structures that still stand today. Today the Winery is owned by the Jackson Family who purchased it in 1994 and is part of their international portfolio. Wines are made by Pierre Seillan who has made wine all over the world. His breakout was the 100pt Parker Bordeaux Blends he made at Verite in California. The wine is drinking gloriously and will age superbly in your cellar. The winery is situated in Berardenga one of the sweets spots of Tuscany and home to other greats like Fontodi and Felsina. With a savings of 40%, a huge 95pt Parker rating, all-time great vintage makes this is an insane buy and wait till you taste it!
