2016 JULES MELANGE BARRELHEAD CABERNET “750ML” The wine is Deep ruby purple hue, beautiful aromas of crushed dark fruits – cassis and blackberry – are matched by sandalwood and vanilla oak tones. On the palate is has loads of plush Cab fruit – ripe, mouth filling and layered, with sweetly concentrated crushed dark fruits, ripe supple tannins, stony Spring Mountain mineral notes underneath, and complex mocha and oak nuances that linger into the wine’s long finish. Upfront and forward enough to enjoy right now, this will also drink great for decades longer .

I tasted a bottle of this last week and it absolutely blew me away. One of the best deals on hard core Napa Cab out there! I strongly recommend!

Barrelhead Wine Company is a tiny winery – a collaboration between Chris Corley (winemaker at his family winery Monticello Vineyards which he runs with his two brothers), and his wife Jules Melange, who started at Mondavi/Opus fifteen years ago in vineyard research and went on to work as a viticulturist for Williams Selyem, Hourglass Vineyards, and many other prestigious vineyards in Napa and Sonoma. The 2016 Barrelhead Cabernet Sauvignon is a single vineyard, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the family’s Heinemann Mountain Vineyard, up on Spring Mountain, in the Napa Valley. Only 124 cases of the wine were made. This is hard core single vineyard mountain fruit from the great 2016 Napa Cab vintage that received 98pts by Parker for the vintage that can be had for today down to $49.99 per. 2016 is one of the greatest vintages ever for Napa Cab a wine that is  wonderfully accessible now and will also cellar superbly for decades. This wine is killer at the price. The wine drinks much more that its price tag.
