2016 SALCHETO SALCO VINO NOBILE DE MONTEPULCIANO “750ML” The 2016 vintage in Tuscany is a classic vintage in Tuscany. Parker’s Wine Advocate gave the vintage 97pts. The wine is the 2016 Salcheto Salco from Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, got a huge 96pts by Wine Spectator. The wine is a selection of the oldest vineyard plots and is made from a specific clone of Sangiovese called Sangiovese Prugnolo Gentile that is famous from this part of Tuscany and add added depth and complexity to the wine.
Named for the Renaissance town of Montepulciano, the term nobile has historical roots in the original practice of reserving this wine exclusively for the aristocratic families of the area. The producer Salcheto is a leading sustainable producer throughout Italy. They were named Gambero Rosso’s Sustainable Winery of the Year for all of Italy in 2014. The wine is absolutely glorious, lush, layered, perfumed and mouthwatering. This is definitely a wine to spend time with, to ponder and enjoy. It is extremely fairly priced for what’s in the bottle when compared to other top Tuscans of this caliber that are for more expensive. Give yourself a treat! You deserve it!
This features a core of ripe, sweet plum, blackberry and spice flavors, accented by earth, wild herbs and tobacco. Though dense and muscular, there’s also a beam of vibrant acidity that keeps this focused and fresh. Best from 2023 through 2042. 1,000 cases made, 100 cases imported.
New leather, forest-berry and rose aromas shape the enticing nose on this radiant red along with a balsamic whiff of camphor. The firm, elegantly structured palate features ripe Marasca cherry, black raspberry, licorice and crushed mint framed in tightly wound, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. It’s linear and still youthfully austere, with great aging potential. Drink 2023–2036.
