2016 Stanton Cabernet
2016 Stanton Cabernet: Napa Valley, California
Winemaker Notes: This vintage brings a reprise of the last year’s 100% representation of their Estate Cabernet Sauvignon varietal. Everything from its deep purple color to its aromas of dark berries, Creme de Cassis, blueberries, sweet vanilla and humidor spice marks this as an exceptionally ripe Cabernet. A fantastic small-production Cabernet from Napa Valley made by Dave Phinney for Stanton Vineyards. Highly recommended.
Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous Red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Oakville is one of California‘s most renowned wine regions, sandwiched between Rutherford and Yountville in the very heart of the Napa Valley. It has gained worldwide recognition for its opulent Cabernet Sauvignon and voluptuous Merlot wines. The climate is generally warm and agreeable, resulting in year after year of favorable vintages. Summer days see a gentle tug of war between warmer inland air and the cool air coming in from the San Pablo Bay, creating an ideal environment to grow red varieties.
