2016 Val di Suga Brunello di Montacino
2016 Val di Suga Brunello di Montacino I have never tasted so many great wines like I did with 2016 Vintage of Brunello. Many consider 2016 to be the greatest year ever for Brunello. The vintage is incredible, Parkers highest rated vintage ever, 98pts and is a no-brainer great year. The wines have sold through I recently, last week re-tasted some of the great 2016 and they blew me away and the hunt was on for something to offer. Just arrived straight from Tuscany we have just received one of my all-time favorite Brunello producers, Tenimenti Angelini and their great wine, the 2016 Val di Suga Brunello.
Val di Suga is in the northeastern of the Brunello zone. Their wines are rich and viscous, almost black in color and are some of the richest, most opulent of all the Brunello’s. The style of the wines can be traced to their winemaker Andrea Lonardi who became famous for the Amarone wines he makes for Bertani. The vineyard grows on volcanic soils, rare in the Brunello zone adding a layer of richness and complexity to this great wine.
This is a great opportunity to get in on great quality from this legendary vintage and if you have some 2016’s, you know how great they are and this is an opportunity to get more. Enjoy!
Aromas of iron, blood and cherry lead off in this smooth and vibrant red, with a well of dark fruit—black cherry and blackberry—settling in on the palate. Offers a dusting of dark chocolaty tannins on the finish. Best from 2023 through 2043. 1,500 imported cases. 93pts Wine Spectator
This is a very concentrated Brunello that combines intense notes of blood orange with a hint of chinotto mixed with complex Mediterranean spices (Helichrysum Thyme and Broom Flowers). It is a wine with a strong nerve, a vibrant acid structure that sustains a concentrated mouthfeel, rich in silky tannins. The finish is extremely long and soft. Winemaker
