2018 Famille Perrin Vinsobres Les Cornuds “750ML”
2018 Famille Perrin Vinsobres Les Cornuds “750ML” The Perrin family is probably the most recognized in all of the Southern Rhone. They make the great Chateau Beaucastel. They also make other great wines and some of them are also great values. This is one of them! The 2018 Vinsobres Les Cornuds is an even split of Syrah and Grenache that just screams Syrah in its blackberry, violets, ground pepper, and meaty aromas and flavors. Concentrated, medium to full-bodied, and balanced, it’s a terrific wine that’s going to keep for 7-8 years or more. Jeb Dunnuck
A ripe and expressive 2018 wine with a lovely beam of plum puree and violet bracing through, laced with subtle mineral and anise hints along the way. Ends with a lite whiff of dried garrigue on the finish. Drink now – 2026. Wine Spectator
Perrin
The Perrin family are probably the most famous family in the Southern Rhone. Their Chateau Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape is arguably the greatest Chateauneuf made today. Has been #1 wine on Wine Spectator Top100 and is priced up their $80 to $120 per bottle. Robert Parker included the Perrin brothers Jean-Pierre and Francois Perrin among the Most Influential Wine Personalities of the last 20 years. What many people don’t know is that the Perrins make a gorgeous wine from the lesser known “Vinsobres” appellation in the southern half of Southern Rhone, which was only brought to full classification in 2005. It is one of the last remaining “insider” villages in the Southern Rhone that continues to churn out insane quality. Couple that with the Perrin family’s expertise in vineyard selection and management, and you have an under $20 value that I would put on the table against anything from the more well-known villages (Gigondas, Vacqueyras, etc) at double the price. If you remember the days were “Gigondas costed a nickel,” that’s what this wine reminds me of. If you have the space, this is a multi-case buy.
Famille Perrin’s involvement in the wine trade can be traced back to 1909 with the purchase of Château de Beaucastel. Today the 5th generation of the family is involved in every aspect of the business. Famille Perrin’s range of wines enable you to discover the richness and diversity of the Southern Rhône Valley. It is no coincidence that Famille Perrin is the leading organic wine grower of the Southern Rhône Valley, where they occupy the region’s best terroirs. Their values have given them a worldwide reputation for excellence: absolute respect for the soil, a commitment to manual methods, and a deep belief that organic viticulture is the only way to express the true essence of the terroir. Nature and tradition are key to the Famille Perrin approach, which has continued seamlessly over five generations.
