2018 Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny, Pinot Noir from Chambolle-Musigny, Burgundy, France

This deeply colored wine is redolent of red berries and is full-bodied yet delicate with a silky finish—unique characteristics imparted by the soil of Chambolle-Musigny. The wine develops aromas of undergrowth when older. It will develop in the bottle for 10 to 12 years. Pair with delicate dishes that are not too spicy, including red meat in sauces, game and medium-strong cheeses.

Pinot Noir is the dominant red wine grape of Burgundy, now adopted (and extensively studied) in wine regions all over the world. The variety’s elusive charm has carried it to all manner of vineyards.These extend from western Germany (as Spätburgunder) and northern Italy to Chile, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the USA. California, Oregon and New Zealand are arguably the greatest centers for the grape outside its home territory. However great Pinot Noir is made in all of these territories.

Chambolle-Musigny represents the charm of the Côte de Nuits district of Burgundy. But you’ll find that term mainly in reference to the vineyards in its southern stretches, which border Clos Vougeot: the Grand Cru of Le Musingy and in part, its neighboring and most exceptional Premier Cru, Les Amoureuses. Some producers argue for the primacy of Les Amoureuses and its eligibility for Grand Cru status given its wines can sometimes surpass other Grands Crus.
