2018 MALK PINOT NOIR “750ML” Sweet aromas of ripe raspberry and rich dark cherry.  Notice wonderful Pinot character of fresh tea leaves and bergamot orange interact with aromas of fresh soil, forest floor, and mushrooms.  Spicy expressions of cardamom, allspice, and fennel are just some of the many highlights that come and go as you experience the wine.  The palate will not disappoint as it delivers a deliciously plush and weighty mouth feel with just enough structure to make it a wonderful food wine and cellar worthy. Exhibits wonderful purity to the ripe plum and black cherry core. This is supple, graceful and delicate, with enough depth and traction for interest. Ends with a dash of mocha- and espresso-tinged oak.

We have just received our allocation of one of the greatest expressions of California Pinot Noir I have ever tasted. The wine is impossible to get and we are the only ones that have it on the east coast. This is real Pinot Noir of the highest caliber that I would put against all comers. The 2018 Malk Pinot Noir is a masterpiece.

We have been huge fans of Brian Malk’s Cabernet from Stags Leap in Napa. This Micro production Cult Cabernet has been a huge favorite of our customers since 2006. The only reason we get any wine is because of a personal mutual relationship.  Brian’s winemaker is the great Robbie Myers, one of the greatest winemaker in California today. His Resume speaks for itself. We are talking Peter Michael, Lewis, Rudd and L’angevin. With Robbie’s great track record with not only Cabernet, Malk Family Vineyards added a Sauvignon Blanc four years ago which again is one of the California’s greatest expression of that grape, winning a blind tasting of the greatest Sauvignon Blanc from around the world.

Robbie Myers is also a genius at Pinot Noir and I have been begging Brian to get Robbie to make him some Pinot Noir for the last three years. The biggest issue has been finding the right fruit. If Malk was going to make a Pinot Noir it was going to have to be truly world class. Finally in 2013 Brian finally got the raw materials he was looking for. He was able to source from one of the great single vineyards in the Sonoma Coast. The vineyard is called Cinghiale and is owned by the impossible to get Del Dotto Winery who make their single vineyard Pinot from the vineyard. All Del Dottos wines are only available directly from the Winery and it is impossible to get on their list. We are talking extremely spectacular exclusive stuff. This is ‘true’ Sonoma Coast high in the hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Adjacent and neighboring vineyards include Peter Michael, Marcassin, Flowers, Hirsch and Pahlmeyer. Only 153 cases of 2018 Malk Pinot Noir were made. I have tasted the wine and it rivals the finest I have ever tasted from California. The wine in its youth must be given time to open up, the bouquet is incredible with layering of fruit, Asian spice and new oak that does not dominate rather adds balance and depth, the palate shows glorious fruit, marvelously supple, full of intricacies and complexities with a finish that never ends. The wine will reward you massively in the cellar.  Pinot Lovers You Must Get This Wine!
