2018 PoderNuovo Palazzone Sotirio
2018 PoderNuovo Palazzone Sotirio Sotirio is made from pure Sangiovese grape following the best tradition of production in the territory of Siena. It has ruby red color and the nose gives notes of ripe cherry and sweet tobacco. The palate is elegant and intense with important and silky tannins and spicy final notes. Winery
“Another fantastic Sangiovese with currant and dark-berry aromas and flavors. Full body and firm and silky tannins. Beauty.” Suckling
Lovers of great Super Tuscans Like Fontodi’s Flaccianello or Sorbo, Cepparello or Felsina’s Fontaloro will absolutely flip for this wine and it is way cheaper, in fact two to three times cheaper. What these wines have in common is that they are top Super Tuscans and they all made with Tuscany’s noble grape and are all 100 % Sangiovese. Todays wine is also a 100% Sangiovese Super Tuscan, many of you received and loved the 2015 vintage of this wine. The 2018 PoderNuovo Palazzone Sotirio is better and is as good or better than the famous wines I have mentioned at a much better price.
The Bulgari Family is known for decadence, one of the leading jewelry and luxury goods companies in the world. Next in line to take over the family business is the young and charismatic Giovanni Bulgari. Giovanni is a man who has immense passion for wine and a relentless entrepreneurial spirit, but instead of following in his family’s footsteps, he forged his own path, pursuing his love for wine and viticulture. He and his father purchased an abandoned 64-acre vineyard in the remote foothills of Sienna, revitalized the vineyard and built a state of the art environmentally friendly winery, which runs on geothermal heating and cooling system that brings the winery’s carbon footprint close to zero. Architecturally, is one of the most beautiful modern wineries I have ever seen, floor to ceiling glass windows with the Tuscan landscape in a full 360 degree view (right). It belongs on the list with properties like Rocca di Frassinello in Chianti, Opus One in Napa, and Chateau Cheval Blanc in Bordeaux.
Todays wine, the 2018 Sotirio is the Winery’s top bottling. I tasted the wine last week and it blew me away. Tremendous finesse matched with raw power that only the finest Sangiovese based reds can achieve. The wine is a Tuscan masterpiece that will age out superbly in your cellar and is worthy of laying down. This is a true great expression of why Tuscany is considered one of the great red wine regions of the world and when you consider what similar quality costs, while the wine is not inexpensive, it’s is a bargain for what’s in the bottle. I strongly recommend.
