2018 Poggio Alto Brunello
2018 Poggio Alto Brunello Crushed plums, black cherry, tobacco and moist soil tones form up in the glass. It’s velvety-smooth, cast across a medium-bodied frame with balancing acids and a polished display of blackberry, balsamic spice and inner violet florals. The density and concentration of primary fruits combined with the wine’s fine tannin profile promises many years of development. The wines keeps me coming back for another glass. Very inviting.
This red offers aromas of baked plum, exotic spice, blue flower, and new leather. The tight palate reflects the nose, featuring additional tones of dried black cherry, licorice, and tobacco alongside firm, fine-grained tannins. Drink 2022–2027. 94pts WE
Sometimes you get lucky. I discovered this wine pretty much by luck. It comes from a small importer who thought they were sold out but and discovered they had some 2018 mixed in with the current 2018. I immediately tasted the wine and grabbed all the cases they had. The 2018 vintage for Brunello could be the greatest of all time. The vintage received 98pts by Parker’s WA which is the highest rating a Brunello vintage has ever received. I have been doing this for about 25 years and have tasted all the Brunello vintages during that period and I can tell you 2018 could be the best ever! The wine we have is the 2018 Poggio Alto Brunello a tiny artisanal family run house that’s making spectacular wine. All we have to offer is 25 cases and that’s it. The wine is extremely affordable at $38.99. I strongly recommend!!
