2018 Tenuta Di Nozzole Chianti Classico Villa Nozzole; Sangiovese from Tuscany, Italy
Winemaker Notes; Generous flavors of cherry and fresh red fruits. Soft tannins and a long finish.Pairs well with various meats, poultry and cheeses.
Sangiovese (or Nielluccio in Corsica), a dark-berried vine, is the most widely planted grape variety in Italy. Virtually synonymous with the red wines of Tuscany, and all the romanticism that goes with the territory, Sangiovese is the core constituent in some of the great names in Italian wine. Italy’s love affair with Sangiovese – and indeed the world’s – is generations old, though recent grapevine research suggests the variety is not as ancient as once thought.
Chianti Classico DOCG is the heartland of the Chianti wine region – its traditional and longest-established viticultural area. The typical Chianti Classico wine is a ruby-red, Sangiovese-based wine with aromas of violets and cherries and a hint of earthy spice. The modern-day Chianti Classico viticultural area now covers almost all land between Siena and Florence. It is buffered at each end by the Colli Fiorentini and Colli Senesi production zones.
Tenute di Nozzole is a Tuscan wine estate located in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone, north of the village of Greve. It has been owned by the Folonari family since 1971 and is known mainly for its wines from the Sangiovese grape as well as a leading Cabernet Sauvignon. The entire estate covers around 400 hectares (1000 acres), with around 90ha (225 acres) planted to vineyards. It produces a standard Chianti Classico and a Riserva, both aged in Slavonian oak, plus a single-vineyard Gran Selezione wine from the La Forra parcel.
