2019 Marco Bonfante Barolo 750ML
2019 Marco Bonfante Barolo 750ML “Aromas of cherries and raspberries with subtle notes of cedar, cardamom, crushed stone and white pepper. Medium-bodied, textured and polished with fine-grained tannins and a mineral finish. Better after 2025.” Suckling
Barolo enchants for its elegance and pleasantness, with spiced and velvety aromas which are really captivating for the nose and palate and that leave a long gustatory persistence. In the glass it shows with a clear ruby red color when young, with garnet reflections if aged. Scents of violet, “goudron” and truffle can be perceived. On the palate the sensations are various: we find ourselves in front of a full-bodied, classic, structured wine, which will be aged for many years and represents in an extraordinary way the important character of the Langhe area. The noble tannins characteristic of this wine improve after some years of refinement in the bottle. Winemaker
Barolo is a wine that can be profound and exhilarating. It’s also a wine that can be restrained and unyielding. Which one you’ll get is not always easy to determine. We know most good Barolos needs years of bottle age to reach an ideal stage of drinkablity, but often we don’t have the time or patience to wait and we end up being disappointed by a wine that’s just not ready to drink. Well we’re here to say that we found a Barolo that will NOT disappoint. It’s ready to drink right now and it delivers. We were floored by the Marco Bonfante Barolo 2019 when we saw what we could offer the wine for. Barolo this good at this price does not, I repeat, does not exist. Sure you might find Barolo at this price but they don’t hold a candle to this wine.
The wine is sourced from one of the sweet spots of Barolo, Bussia. Some of the finest Barolo’s ever made come from Bussia and many legendary producers make a Barolo single vineyard Bussia including Fratelli, Aldo Conterno and Prunoto. The Bonfante have been producing wine in Piedmont for 8 generations and this is a family affair and today is run by brothers Marco and Micaela. Marco makes the wine graduating from the Oenological School of Alba enology . Consulting wine maker is Gianluca Scaglione who is a rising force in Piedmont making one of my favorite wines ever from Piedmont, Le Grive. Vineyard manage is the maestro Daniel Eberly who is dedicated to the great heritage of Piedmont’s viticultural diversity.
2019 vintage for Barolo is superb 97pts by Wine Spectator and 96pts by Parker’s WA. The wine is aged in large French oak which allows the essence of the wine to come through without getting overpowered by the influence of new oak. You want that in great Barolo, you want the great Nebbiolo grape to shine. The result is a wine of structure, finesse, and beauty that is ready to drink right now. Highly recommending this for any lover of Barolo. Again, quality this good at this price is very hard to find.
