I met Nicolas Idiart many years ago. He is one of the most passionate lovers of great wine that I know. His knowledge and his experience are superb. He is a third generation wine maker. Both his father and Grandfather made wine in Bordeaux which is where he is from. He studied Winemaking a the prestigious wine school, the University of Bordeaux at graduated at the extremely young age of 19. He then worked for one of the most famous Bordeaux negociants spending many years in the US and has a great understanding of our palates. His passion was always to make great wine. He had a look at Bordeaux and the amount of money it would have costed him to buy the correct vineyards to make great wine was prohibitive and quality to Nicolas was the most important thing. He settled on the Loire valley, a vineyard in the Touraine where he had the terroir to make world class Sauvignon Blanc.

I have managed to secure 100 cases of his incredible 2016 Maison Idiart Touraine Sauvignon Blanc to offer for the summer months. To make this Sauvignon blanc he joint force with Frdric Vron who owned the famous Domaine Vron in the Touraine appellation. Now if you love Sancerre like I do you have to taste this wine. The Loire is famous for its great Sauvignon Blancs in particular those coming from the Sancerre. As the popularity of Sancerre has increased so have prices. Quality Sancerre is all between $25 and $35 a bottle for the 2016 vintage. Today’s wine is $14.99 and it blows away these same Sancerre. If I could blind taste on these wines I guarantee you would not be able to tell the difference. The smart money and the insiders know that Touraine Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire is the way to go.
