2017 Malk Family Vineyards Cabernet
2017 Malk Family Vineyards Cabernet Impossible to get. Great Vintage. Allocation Cut In Half.
The 2017 vintage offered a wonderfully warm and early growing season and the Malk Family Cabernet Sauvignon is a reflection of that. We can see what are now the beautiful aromatic expressions of the vineyard: the forward, dark fruit of blackberry, ripe currant, cedar spice and chocolate. The mouthfeel is perfectly balanced from entry to finish, exhibiting the true elegance of the wine. The tannins are soft and supple and provide a beautiful framework for the entire wine. The 2017 is simply a more concentrated version of these fantastic attributes. The wine is in excellent condition and is very approachable in its youth, but it will confidently age in the cellar. – Robbie Meyer, Winemaker
We have been patiently awaiting the release of one of Stags Leap and Napa’s most elusive and exclusive Cabernets. Word on the wine is getting out and our allocation by Brian Malk has unfortunately been cut in half. 2017 is also a phenomenal vintage for Malk Cab, harkening me back to the 2014 and 2015 vintages, incredible balance and finesse with the quintessential Stag’s Leap touch of terroir. 2017 is a definite buy vintage for Napa and cannot be missed, with amazing approachability in its youth with the ability to age for a decade or more.
This is one of the most hard to get most exclusive Stags Leap Cult Cab. We are the only people on the East Coast to get the wine because of personal relationship with the owner. The wine rivals the finest from Stags Leap at a fraction of the price. Made in tiny quantities and rivals Shafer’s Hillside Select in quality I urge you to grab this wine while you can. It will absolutely blow you away now and can be cellared for many years to come. Pure greatness in a bottle.
We discovered the wine after a tasting held at our headquarters by one of California’s greatest winemakers, Robbie Meyer. His Resume speaks for itself. We are talking Peter Michael, Lewis, Rudd and L’Angevin. The man is a great winemaker and he is particularly brilliant at world-class Napa Cabernet. After the tasting while talking wine and shooting the breeze, he happen to tell me about a tiny new winery in the Stags Leap District of Napa that he was making the wine for and that the Cabernet he made was absolutely brilliant.
The winery is Malk Family Vineyards and it is a tiny two acre vineyard of Cabernet that lies adjacent to the famous Fay Vineyard at the base of the palisades, edging the valley floor on the eastern slopes of Stags Leap. The great Odette’s vineyards are right in front of Malk’s vineyard. Being the Napa Cabernet nut that I am, I had to and I mean had to taste this wine. If you know your Napa Cabernet history Stags Leap is one of the preeminent Cabernet -producing regions in the world. At the famous 1976 Blind Paris Tasting, nine French Judges awarded the 1973 Stags Leap Winery Cabernet first place over the finest from France including Mouton and Haut Brion. I had to try this wine and the hunt was on. No one even knew about this little garden tucked away in Stags leap.
This is a great vintage for Napa and the 2017 Malk Family Vineyards Cabernet is a great wine.
