Lots of dried dark fruits, with blueberries and blackberries on the nose. Full body with chewy integrated tannins and a licorice, stone and dried-fruit finish. Bright and delicious. Racy and fine. Shows tension.
The estate takes its name from the red pebbles found in the vineyards which lie a few miles inland from the coastal town of Cecina. The property was created in 1998 with the first wines produced in 2002. An extraordinary amount of attention has been lavished on the vineyards and buildings, the estate is certified organic and biodynamic, the winery is the only one we know of that has been built on Feng Shui principles! It was purchased in 2004 by Dutch entrepreneur Eric Albada Jelgersma owner of Margaux Cru Classés Châteaux Giscours and du Tertre.
The palate combines bold red fruit flavours with elegance and complexity. It begins with an inviting plummy freshness, opened to a richer damson and then showed complex notes of earth and spices throughout a long finish. The plentiful tannins initially had a supple and rounded nature at first, but gave a surprisingly good grip to the finish.
The wine’s poise is impressive, its plentiful tannins do not make it heavy, it is rich without being alcoholic and its acidity is fresh without being sharp.
